When you become a mother, there are phrases that you hear almost immediately. One of the most the popular ones is, "it takes a village." I personally dislike this phrase immensely. Not only does it instill fear in every parent who doesn't have a large support network, but it also simply isn't true. That said, having "people", like-minded people that is, in your circle, whether they live in town or half way across the country, is valuable.
When I became a mom to my amazing little boy two years ago, it didn't take long to realize that a) 95% of the people who I thought were my friends, in the true sense of the word, weren't, and b) most moms I already knew, with very few exceptions, had very different priorities, mentalities, and interests than me. I am not about mom-shaming---the world is sadly full of way too much of that, but I absolutely wanted to find more mamas who shared my interests. So I did the one thing I NEVER thought I'd do lol. I created a public Instagram account. I had been unemployed since the Covid-19 pandemic began, and figured, why not? For safety reasons, I of course keep our names and location, confidential (because we live in a sick world), but with those settings in place, I was ready.
I began posting some of our toddler home-school and sensory play activities. And before I knew it, I had discovered an entire community of amazing parents who are as in love with open-play toys and sensory play activities as I am. Many are also very interested in positive parenting approaches and non-toxic products. I had finally found my people. :) I discovered amazing brands and shops, and began promoting all of their incredible resources. I also began teaching free virtual sensory play activities every Saturday, because I believe it is imperative that our children socialize safely during this pandemic. Within months my account grew to nearly 9k followers, and I expected to soon hit 10k, and receive the much desired swipe up feature on IG. And then...I got hacked.
I may have found my people, but there are still bad people everywhere. I have since learned that it is extremely common for large IG accounts to get hacked. These "professionals" impersonate your account, and then use "bots" to report all of your posts as spam so that IG automatically disables your account. If IG had any sort of customer service department to speak of, this wouldn't be so much of an issue. Unfortunately, they couldn't care less about the businesses to which they owe a level of due diligence as a result of the agency relationship created when one decides to use their social media platform to earn a living. Some retrieve their accounts after months of repeated appeals. Some never regain access to their accounts.
So, Mama Life Today, now has a website! Welcome! I own this domain and it can't be taken away lol. Whether you are a mama who was among the thousands who inspired me daily on the IG platform, or you are a business owner, in search of a content creator who can show the world exactly what you have to offer, I am so glad you are here!
