Getting Messy and Staying Healthy

When I tell people that we've been staying home since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I'm often asked how we manage. I've always been a very social person and I never imagined that my son would end up spending the majority of his toddler years at home, but I can honestly say we have had more fun than I ever could have imagined. When I realized he wouldn't be able to play with other children until he's eligible for the vaccine, let alone attend daycare/pre-school, I decided to make our home, our sanctuary. The world of open-ended play and play-based learning has brought so much joy into our lives, and one item in particular, has made our backyard our favorite place to be our mud kitchen from The Monarch Studio.

The Monarch Studio's mud-kitchens are all handmade in Edgartown, MA, with high-quality wood and sealant so that they withstand even the messiest play. :) We've enjoyed every season with our mud-kitchen, but Fall has been our favorite. We made "alphabet soup" and "apple pie", created potions inside a huge pumpkin, washed mini pumpkins, created gardens, and made countless memories all season long.

The Monarch Studio also now carries so many beautiful accessories that have made our mud kitchen play even more fun, and the owner, Lauren Evans is truly an inspiration. I admire her and love her shop so much that I was flattered when she expressed interest in our sensory sticks. She is now carrying them in her shop as well. :)

While this country may hopefully see normalcy next year once all children are eligible for the vaccine, pandemic or not, home should be everyone's sanctuary. I'm so glad this awful pandemic resulted in us focusing on making home the best place to be.
